Palooka is a 1934 American comedy about a simple, good-natured but not-too-bright young man named Joe Palooka who is discovered by a slick fight promoter and turned into a heavyweight boxing champion. As Joe rises to fame, he must navigate the corrupt world of professional boxing, deal with gangsters, and try to win the heart of the girl he loves.
The film is a light-hearted, fun boxing comedy with plenty of slapstick humor and 1930s charm.
It stars Stuart Erwin as Joe Palooka, Lupe Vélez as the fiery leading lady, Jimmy Durante as the fast-talking promoter, and features Bela Lugosi in a supporting role.
