Scientific name / identification: Keichousaurus sp. / Keichousaurus hui Geological age / period: Triassic, probably Middle Triassic
Country of origin / locality: China, Guizhou, Xingyi County, area near the Mulang River
Dimensions: slab approximately 8.6 × 5.5 × 1.3 cm Weight: approximately 165 g Condition: natural / minimal Restauration/fixation
Observed condition: Small prepared fossil on light matrix with visible slab cracks and partly restored or reworked preservation according to the seller. The overall anatomical framework appears plausible, but there are clear preservation losses, especially in the skull, thoracic, and abdominal regions. The specimen is collector-interesting, though not high grade as a top-quality example.
Special observations: Possibly an unusual preserved orientation or view compared with more commonly offered specimens; darker abdominal zone present, significance currently unclear. The specimen also shows a conspicuous elongate structure left of the shoulder/neck region, the exact interpretation of which remains uncertain.
Additional seller information: According to the previous owner, the fossil was discovered in the mountainous area near the Mulang River in Xingyi County, Guizhou, China, and was restored by a local fossil conservator. A supplied provenance form additionally states that the piece was acquired in Paris in 2010 from a gallery / antique shop. The form lists “Keichousaurus,” “Triassic,” and “Paris” as place of acquisition, but does not provide excavation documentation or primary field provenance.
