This 1840 edition is labeled No. 5, Vol. 1 and was printed at the office of the Rotary Card Press on 52 Washington Street.

The almanac was published by Thomas Groom at Stationers' Hall, 82 State Street.

It typically contained monthly calendars, business listings, advertisements, and chronologies of major events.

Some copies of this edition included two maps: a plan of the city of Boston (missing),  and a map of diverging railroads (included).
