VW Golf with engine light on, at one point it started flashing, then stopped, so I took it to the garage for a diagnostic. They reported the following - '
We have carried out an initial diagnostic code read and found fault codes relating to the airflow mass sensor, crankshaft sensor, and camshaft sensor. Based on our findings so far, we would recommend starting by checking the engine timing. The engine is also producing a rattling noise, which is likely related to the timing chain. Additionally, the engine oil has a strong fuel smell. This could be caused by the engine timing being out'.
The quote for checking, repair, and risk of subsequent issues being found and the rising costs becoming uneconomical has meant I want to sell the car. It runs, the engine light is on but not flashing. The car starts fine, but the video attached shows the metallic rattle which begins after about a minute of idling. There's a few age related scuffs on the bodywork, but no dents or scratches.
It has an MOT till 22 Sept 2026. 93,000 miles on the clock. It has had a new brake master, rear brake pads and clutch put in 6 weeks ago (annoyingly). New alternator, battery and rear coil springs in the past 12-18months.
I have had offers to scrap, but as it still runs, I think there's enough good stuff there for the right person to pick it up to fix, use or sell.
