An original 10x8" vintage photo from a very large collection of fascinating and rare original NASA press photographs that originated from a NASA employee in the photo lab or press office at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. A number of the images from this collection appear to be one of a kind or used internally only. This is an original print on Kodak paper. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.
Photo OverviewAstronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Jr. stands on the lunar surface at Tranquility Base during Apollo 11’s first moonwalk, gazing at the newly planted United States flag while the leg of Lunar Module “Eagle” looms at left and crisp boot-prints fill the foreground. Captured on 20 July 1969 by mission commander Neil Armstrong with a 70 mm Hasselblad camera, this original NASA 8x10 glossy (AS11-40-5875) bears the classic white top border with NASA/LBJ Space Center identifications.
Apollo 11 achieved humanity’s first crewed lunar landing, fulfilling President Kennedy’s goal and inspiring generations toward space exploration. Aldrin became the second human to walk on the Moon, and the flag he saluted is now preserved at the Smithsonian. Authentic mission-dated prints such as this were distributed in very limited numbers—secure this iconic piece of history before it disappears into a museum or private collection.
