Photo Overview

London & North Western Railway 2-4-0 steam locomotive No. 2005 stands at a covered platform with a rake of clerestory-roof coaches, steam drifting from the tall chimney while riveted splashers, large driving wheels and the cab-side number plate gleam in the soft sepia light. Likely photographed at a London-area LNWR station around 1910, the image offers a crisp, close-range study of an Edwardian express passenger train moments before departure.

Designed by F.W. Webb, the ‘Improved Precedent’ class (popularly “Jumbos”) was the pride of LNWR high-speed services in the 1890s, famed for 95 mph runs such as sister engine Hardwicke on the 1895 “Race to the North.” By 1923 most were withdrawn, making in-service photographs of individual members scarce collectibles today. Secure this evocative piece of UK railway history before another enthusiast snatches it up!
