LTE Band 3 – 1800 MHz. LTE Band 3 is utilized across Europe, Asia, and the USA. This frequency is used by Telefónica, Vodafone, and Telekom alike. Consequently, this LTE frequency is of immense importance in this region.
LTE Band 8 – 900 MHz. LTE Band 8 is used in Europe and Japan. It is a legacy GSM frequency. In this region, Band 8 is utilized exclusively by Telekom and is therefore of limited relevance.
LTE Band 20 – 800 MHz. LTE Band 20 is arguably the most important LTE band in this region. It is used solely in Europe and is supported by all network operators. Its key advantage is that it is available in both urban and rural areas and can be utilized by almost any smartphone. This is because the 800 MHz frequency performs optimally in both densely populated and sparsely inhabited locations.
LTE Band 28 – 700 MHz. LTE Band 28 is also utilized exclusively in Europe. However, it represents a frequency of the future. LTE Band 28 is expected to become available soon, aiming to bring increased capacity to rural areas. As of now, however, it remains uncertain whether network operators will actually implement LTE on this frequency.
These frequencies were previously utilized within the D- and E-network spectrums by Telekom, Vodafone, and Telefónica (O2). In the past, the 900/1800 MHz spectrum was used exclusively for GSM. Das Besondere daran: Es ist sowohl in Städten als auch in ländlichen Gebieten verfügbar und kann von fast jedem Smartphone ausgenutzt werden. Dies liegt daran, dass die 800-MHz-Frequenz sowohl in gut besiedelten als auch in weniger bewohnten Orten optimal funktioniert.
LTE-Band 28 – 700 MHz. Das LTE-Band 28 wird ebenfalls nur in Europa genutzt. Allerdings handelt es sich hierbei eher um eine Frequenz der Zukunft. Schon bald soll das LTE-Band 28 verfügbar sein, um mehr Kapazität in ländliche Gebiete zu bringen. Bis jetzt ist aber noch nicht ganz sicher, ob die Netzbetreiber LTE auf dieser Frequenz wirklich umsetzen.
Die Frequenzen wurden früherer für den D+E-Netz Bereich Telekom Vodafone Telefonica (O2) genutzt. In der Vergangenheit wurde das 900 /1800-MHz-Spektrum ausschließlich für GSM verwendet.
