Photo Overview
This vintage black and white promotional portrait shows British comedian and actor Charlie Drake smiling warmly in a striped jacket and patterned tie, with a clean white lower border bearing his bold blue ink inscription and autograph. The photo credit on the front identifies photographer Katie Vandyck, and the reverse has "Charlie Drake" handwritten for filing, confirming the subject. It is a classic UK television era publicity photograph, ideal for collectors of British comedy and autographs.
Charlie Drake was one of Britain's best loved comic performers, starring in hit BBC series such as "The Worker" and enjoying a successful music career with the novelty hit "My Boomerang Won't Come Back." His slapstick style and small stature made him a household name in the 1950s and 1960s, and he continued working on stage and screen for decades. Authentic hand signed portraits of Drake are increasingly scarce as collectors hold onto them, so adding this one to your cart now secures a charming piece of classic British TV history before it disappears.

Front lower right (small print): Photo: Katie Vandyck
Front lower center (blue ink inscription and signature): Best Wishes Charlie Drake
Back lower right (black ink handwriting): Charlie Drake
Print analysis: Glossy photographic paper with a clear studio credit and wide white inscription area is typical of original UK publicity prints from the 1970s-1980s. The strong, flowing blue ink inscription sits on top of the emulsion with visible stroke variation, indicating a live hand signature rather than a preprinted facsimile. The blank back with no postcard layout or modern lab branding suggests a darkroom or pro-lab print rather than a later digital reproduction. Based on style and aging, this is most consistent with a Type 1 original photo printed within a few years of the portrait session, likely c1970s-1980s.
