Vintage Kafer? Germany Lever Dial Test Indicator 1/1000 Jeweled Machinist Tool

Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible vintage German mechanical lever-type dial test indicator kit, precision crafted by Käfer (Kaefer) Messuhrenfabrik. This classic machinist tool features a side-mounted dial face running parallel to the stylus arm, offering specialized clearance for precision lathe setups, surface plate inspections, or milling adjustments.

The dial face features a clear, highly legible light-greenish hue graduated from 0 to 15, reading to a precision resolution of 1/1000" (.001"). The backplate of the instrument housing is crisply stamped with the serial number 313135, and the bottom of the dial face is marked "MADE IN GERMANY."

The indicator is complete with its original fitted wood presentation box featuring a classic green felt-lined interior lid. It comes equipped with both of its original mounting attachments, including the long adjustable rectangular toolpost extension arm with a knurled thumb screw lock and a threaded round mounting stub.

Condition Details:
This precision tool is in fully operational, properly working condition. The internal jeweled mechanism is highly responsive, and the measuring lever moves smoothly and returns accurately. Cosmetically, there is a visible dent/ding on the knurled edge of the aluminum outer bezel ring (near the 10 o'clock position). Crucially, this does not affect functionality; the bezel ring still turns freely and smoothly across its full range for quick zero-setting. The vintage face shows honest age-toning and tiny oxidation specks around the lower rim under the crystal cover. The steel mounting accessories display a typical dark, aged patina with minor surface tarnish spots. The wood box is structurally sound with an intact latch hook and secure rear hinges. There is a chunk of wood missing on one edge of the box (see pictures)
