1936 WALKING LIBERTY 50C

This is one of the shortest series in all of U.S. numismatics.  Although business strike Walking Liberty Halves were first coined in 1916, proofs did not emerge from the dies until 1936.  Only six additional issues followed through 1942, the Mint suspending proof Half Dollar production until the third year of the Franklin series (1950).  The rarest proof Walker is by far the first-year 1936, whose original mintage of 3,901 pieces is significantly lower than that of the 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941 and 1942.
