McClelland worked as an ScO ("Ground Astronaut") on hundreds of manned and unmanned U.S. space missions during his 34 years (1958-1992) with NASA at Cape Canaveral in Florida and was a member of the Mercury, Gemini, Skylab, and Apollo teams.

This photo was acquired by McClelland at the time of the mission and stored carefully ever since. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.

Photo Overview

Astronaut Donn Eisele is seen in the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building, donning a full spacesuit as he prepares for altitude runs. Accompanied by NASA personnel, Eisele is in a sterile white room lined with control panels, illustrating the meticulous preparation necessary for the Apollo 7 mission in 1968.

Donn Eisele was part of the historic Apollo 7 mission, the first manned Apollo launch that tested the command and service module in Earth orbit. This mission paved the way for the subsequent lunar missions, demonstrating the effectiveness of the mission protocols and spacecraft systems. Eisele, along with Walter M. Schirra and Walter Cunningham, played a crucial role in this pivotal moment in space exploration.
