A
beautiful handmade Chinese Rooster Chicken Bowl that was collected
years and years ago by my mother. It decorated by hand, the photos shows
all the details (a small chip on the bowl can be seen in photos). A
beautiful and elegant addition to any home, bringing a touch of oriental
luxury to you interior décor. There is no marking at the bottom.
Unknown time period manufactured but was told likely in the 1930s.

History of Rooster Chicken Bowl
The
first rooster bowls originated from China. They were made by the Hakka
community around the Guangdong Province over a hundred years ago.
Designs were drawn onto white bowls. Each bowl depicts a black-tailed
rooster with a red neck and trunk walking on green grass. Red, pink or
purple peonies and green banana leaves were drawn on other side of the
bowl.
Peonies
symbolize wealth and high social status. The banana leaves signify
fortune and luck. Just like most Chinese decorations, the drawings on
the bowl represent the goodness in life. The choice of drawing a rooster
instead of a hen speaks of the favoritism for males in the society back
then.
Superb
old circa 1900 Chinese porcelain hand painted bowl decorated with
Rooster foliage etc... unsigned shows stains in the porcelain and loss
in the painting due to age overall good condition piece check pictures,
the Rooster is a Chinese symbol of honesty, strong and success. It is of
the tang attribute and signifies fortune, luck, fidelity, protection as
well as bossiness.
