Vintage Navy Occupation Service Medal. Medallion is 1 1/4" diameter. Ribbon is 1 1/8" long x 1 3/8" wide. 2 1/2" total length. Rolling clasp on back.
Awarded in 1948 to recognize personnel who participated in the occupation of former enemy territories after World War II. Service members in the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard were eligible for the medal. The medal could be awarded for service in specific regions of Europe or Asia between set dates. The ribbon features a white, black, and red design. The front of the medal features a depiction of the Roman god Neptune riding a sea monster/hippocampus and holding a trident, with the words "OCCUPATION SERVICE” below. Back of the medals show an eagle and the words " United States Navy For Service. In good condition.
