This fabulous old jar was sold to me by a reputable auctioneer, simply described as ‘South Sea Shipwreck Jar’ and was advised it’s approximately 400 years old, my own research supports this and I’ve included a few examples of similar pieces in the last photo.

It’s approximately 9cm wide x 9cm tall.

It has lost its shiny glaze, worn away over time.

The eroded surface and dulled textured of the jar tells a story of lost treasure and suggest the jar spent many years submerged in saltwater, likely excavated from a sunken trade ship carrying ceramic exports. The mid and top sections of the exterior and the interior are covered in faded traces of the original glaze, a pale celadon green and the bottom of the jar where it would not have been protected by heavy glaze is more worn with evidence of erosion leaving is rough and brittle.

I have provided lots of photos for a clear and honest description of condition.
