A moment to remember all who have served Australia during times of war, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, the Dawn Service is a ceremony held across the nation every Anzac Day. Inspired by the military practice ‘stand-to’, when soldiers were woken in the early hours to prepare for a potential enemy attack in the half-light of dawn, the first such dawn vigil may well have occurred during the First World War, before becoming more formally established during the 1920s. Struck by the Royal Australian Mint, the superbly designed 2026 Dawn Service $2 Uncirculated Coin bears a full-colour motif representing the sun rising over the ocean at a Dawn Service ceremony. In the foreground, a lone serviceman stands on the headland, surrounded by poppies. A poignant tribute to a key element of Anzac Day tradition, there is no question that Australia’s latest colour $2 forms a must-have for collectors.
