Large Antique Chinese Engraved Brass Charger Dish – Dragons Chasing Flaming Pearl – 30.5cm

A large and decorative Chinese engraved brass charger or shallow dish, finely hand-worked with two opposing dragons chasing the sacred flaming pearl amongst stylised cloud scrolls.

The interior features traditional Chinese dragon iconography symbolising imperial authority, strength, prosperity and protection. The dragons are engraved in flowing form around a central medallion, with the entire surface displaying hand-tooled decoration typical of early to mid 20th century Chinese metalwork.

This is a genuine period decorative piece with an attractive aged brass patina acquired through decades of handling and display. The scale and classic dragon design make it an excellent display item for Oriental interiors, collectors of Asian antiques, or traditional decorative arts.

Likely produced during the Republican period or slightly later for the domestic decorative export market.

Expert Assessment

This is not a modern machine-stamped tourist reproduction. The engraving is hand executed and the brass has developed a natural aged surface.

While decorative rather than imperial court quality, it is a genuine vintage Chinese brass charger with strong visual appeal and highly desirable dragon symbolism.
