Chinese Pierced Jadeite Carving Dragon & Phoenix on Hardwood Stand c.1950-1970

A finely carved Chinese pierced jadeite sculpture depicting a dragon pursuing the flaming pearl amongst scrolling clouds and lingzhi, opposed by a phoenix, symbolising harmony, prosperity and imperial power.

Beautifully executed in pale celadon and white mottled jade with attractive translucency and intricate openwork carving throughout. The sculpture is mounted on its original carved hardwood display stand.

The dragon and phoenix motif is one of the most important symbolic combinations in Chinese art, traditionally representing balance, strength, wisdom and marital harmony.

Dating to the mid-20th century, likely Hong Kong export period, circa 1950s-1970s.

An impressive and decorative example of traditional Chinese jade carving suitable for collectors of Asian art, jade carvings, scholar’s objects and oriental antiques.
