Here we have the 1888 first edition and FIRST STATE of MARK TWAIN'S LIBRARY OF HUMOR which includes many humorous stories by various authors compiled by Mr. Samuel Clemens himself and published by Charles L. Webster and Co., New York. This particular copy is the FIRST STATE as evidenced by the story "Warm Hair" on page 8 being misattributed to "Mark Twain" and the Index of Titles being arranged by order of appearance in the book rather than the alphabetical order used in later states. At the front of the book there is a "Compiler's Apology" that looks a lot like a hand written note and signature from Twain himself but is only a printed facsimile. 

Book is in GOOD condition. There is general shelf wear and scrapes on the front and back covers as well as crushing and wear to the top and bottom of the spine. FULL DISCLOSURE: When I discovered the book the front endpaper had torn but the mull looked to be intact so I used bookbinder approved LINECO PVA glue to repair the torn crease of the front endpaper. There are some spots of foxing throughout the book and one weak spot in the binding as shown in the pictures. Despite this all pages are securely attached. 

FULL DISCLOSURE #2: This book was recovered from the house of a SMOKER and has a faint odor of cigarettes about it. I like to think it's aired out some since I rescued it but if you don't like cigarette smell PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.
