RAF XV Squadron Navigator W H Trigger 1950 Presentation Cutlery Box Wooden Military Air Force Berlin Airlift Lincoln Lancaster, Made of solid English oak

This is an original empty cutlery presentation box given to Navigator W H Trigger of No 15 Squadron Royal Air Force on the occasion of his marriage on 27 January 1950. The engraved brass plaque on the lid clearly states that the gift was presented by the Commanding Officer, Officers and Aircrew NCOs of No XV Squadron, indicating that he was a well respected navigator within the squadron.

The box is made from wood and has a hinged lid with two front latches. The brass plaque reads Presented to Navigator W H Trigger on the occasion of his marriage by the Commanding Officer Officers and Aircrew NCOs of No XV Squadron Jan 27th 1950. The interior is lined with pleated cream satin with black velvet borders and slots designed to hold a cutlery set. The box is empty and no cutlery is included.

No 15 Squadron RAF has a long and distinguished history. During the Second World War the squadron flew Avro Lancaster bombers, and by 1950 they were operating the Avro Lincoln heavy bomber, the direct successor to the Lancaster. The squadron had recently returned from participating in the Berlin Airlift in 1948 and 1949, when RAF crews flew vital supplies into blockaded West Berlin. By the time Navigator Trigger received this marriage gift in January 1950, the squadron had resumed Bomber Command duties from RAF Coningsby and RAF Marham. Navigators during this period were essential aircrew specialists responsible for long range navigation and mission planning.

This box is a genuine piece of RAF history and represents the strong camaraderie and traditions within bomber squadrons. Presentation marriage gifts were commonly given to valued aircrew, and although the original cutlery is no longer present, the box itself remains a collectible military item with clear engraved provenance.
