Impressive large Satsuma lidded urn or jar featuring foo dogs and 4 samurai. Measures about 40cm tall.
Beautiful aged patina, with aged related paint wear. A hairline crack noted inside the lid, stains inside of the jar, some wear on the jar foo dogs and cracks botton of the jar (manuf defect? last photo).

Decoration: Red enamel (aka iron red) with white moriage. Cream-colored earthenware body Hand-painted enamel and gilt detailing
In my opinion this may be from late Meiji/Taisho period based on: There was large production for export at the time, with foo dogs and Samurai being especially popular for export pieces made for Western collectors. Heavy use of red and busy design suggests later Satsuma production. Crackle glaze No English writing.
Possibly artist or studio name under the lid in kanji.
