Simply gorgeous piece of German marquetry - the art of inlaying decorative pieces of wood veneer or other materials into a surface to form a picture.  Has a rich history dating back to ancient times.  It gained significant popularity in Europe and reached its zenith in the 17th and 18th centuries.  Buchschmid & Gretaux was a notable German workshop renowned for their fine detail and whimsical scenes.
