This piece is quite lightweight, certainly made from a provided mold and made in a small studio.  It's use can be questioned, but it could hold a sponge in the top as a humidor, or a container for misc. use. Within the void it is glazed as you see in the photos, but if it was ever fired it was done at a very low heat.  Rather the body appears to be more of a chalkware, but beautifully hand painted.  I've been in the antiques trade for over 50 years and have only seen one other of this form, and that was badly damaged.  Both were found in Wisconsin, which might be the source.  The jar measures approx 12" H x7" W and weighs approx 2 lb 10 oz. Again, the painting is beautifully done in great detail, not an amateurish job. I have owned it for more than 10 years, enjoying its sculpture quality and respectful subject matter.
