An unusual example of a British commission given to a Dutch officer on a Dutch ship. The Gelderland, 64 Guns, was in the Dutch fleet which surrendered to Vice-Admiral Mitchell’s squadron in August 1799; eleven prizes were added to the Royal Navy.
