Naval Commission appointing Lieutenant Hendrik Hoopt to be Lieutenant of the Dutch Ship the Guelderland in His Majesty’s Service, signed by Admiralty Commissioners, Admiral Earl St.Vincent, Admiral Sir Thomas Troubridge, William Garthshore, and the secretary, Evan Nepean. Vellum commission 11 x 12.5 inches, without seal, vertical folds, some creasing but generally in good clean condition. Admiralty, 2 July 1801.

An unusual example of a British commission given to a Dutch officer on a Dutch ship. The Gelderland, 64 Guns, was in the Dutch fleet which surrendered to Vice-Admiral Mitchell’s squadron in August 1799; eleven prizes were added to the Royal Navy.
