DETAILS:

Case:            ‘Medal of Honour’ model. Of a slightly smaller size, round, though noticeably different and subtly sophisticated, with elongated incised lugs. Original & signed 'Bulova'. The 10kt gold plated bezel and stainless steel case back have been repolished and fitted with a new acrylic crystal. In general the case looks great with only slight wear/scratches present commensurate with the age of the watch.

 

Crown:         New, newly acquired ‘Bulova’ stock. Signed. Excellent.

 

Dial:             Very eye-catching and distinctive. The dial is in its original condition showing aged related wear, pitting and discolouration. The even number positions are numerals with a gold tone finish and black border, whilst the odd positions are pointed markers slightly raised on the dial. The ‘Bulova’ name, ‘selfwinding’ and minute chapter are in black. The hour positions along with the hands have been relumed and glow well in the dark.

 

Hands:         The hour, minute and sweep second hands are original, gilt, looking great.

 

Movement:  BULOVA Swiss manual & selfwinding movement. This is a fine classic 10ACAC calibre with 17 jewels marked ‘L6’ for 1956. The movement allows for both manual and self-winding. It is designed to prevent over-winding. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and at the time of listing is running well keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended.

 

Size:            Round, approx. 30.96mm in diameter (excluding lugs). Approx. 39.05mm including the lugs.

                   

Band:           A new 16mm black leather band with gold tone buckle has been fitted which sets off this watch perfectly.

General comments:

This is a delightful example of a Bulova ‘Medal of Honour’ automatic watch from 1956 which has been restored to appeal once again – and as I’m sure you will agree, it certainly does. The repolished case with eye-catching dial makes the watch highly attractive and very noticeable indeed. The watch has a distinctive classic look and feel that simply cannot be found in newer watches.

• This is a vintage manual & selfwinding watch with a movement from 1956 and as such it will not have the accuracy of a contemporary quartz movement therefore perfect time accuracy cannot be expected. If you want a watch to simply put on and go – then perhaps this is not the best choice you could make – however, if you want a period timepiece that you can admire and enjoy on each occasion you wear it, then this is a great item.
