Pacino signed it for his close friend, Larry Grobel, on July 21, 2007, on a private jet as they were heading home from Las Vegas. Read the story below.
Grobel showed it to me, Autograph Magazine publisher Steve Cyrkin, in the fall of 2013. That's Larry, showing the shirt front and back in 2 photos.
I have never seen anything like it. It is the most dramatic, the most exciting, most displayable example of Pacino signed memorabila I'd ever seen.
I had to have it. I bought it!
I store it in my suit closet, sealed, and look at every few months. It's time for another Pacino fan to enjoy it.
It's in exactly the same condition as it is in the photos.
Here's the story:
Larry Grobel and Al Pacino became good friends after Grobel interviewed him for Playboy in 1979. Grobel is an autograph collector, so he'd buy cool things related to Pacino and his movies and ask Pacino to sign them. Pacino usually grumbled and did.
In 2006, Pacino started working on his new movie, Wilde Salome, a movie based on Oscar Wilde's play, Salome. In 2007, Pacino asked Grobel to be part of the development and production of the movie, which itself would be part of the film.
Pacino wanted to spend a few days scoping out desert locations near Las Vegas for filming Wilde Salome, and asked Grobel to join him. Mega-producer Jerry Weintraub loaned Pacino his private jet for the trip, and Al, Larry, and a small film crew headed to the Bellagio in Vegas.
Larry took this shirt with him, because he wanted Al to sign it. Knowing Al for over 25 years, he knew not to ask Pacino to sign while he was focused on the movie. Al would be annoyed, and while he'd sign it, he knew Pacino would sign a better autograph relaxing on the way home.
Grobel donned the shirt as he was packing up for the flight home. After they settled in on the jet and before they take off, Larry asks Al to sign it. Al acted aggravated as he always did when Grobel asked him to sign, but "He signed the fucking shirt."
This is documented on Page 83 of Grobel's book, I Want You in My Movie!" It's in the 8th photo in this listing. The film crew taped it but the film was never finished or released.
