Plot: The story follows a young shepherd boy, Verónico Cruz, living in a remote village in the Jujuy province. His life is changed by his relationship with a new schoolteacher, known as "el maestro," who introduces him to the outside world.

Historical Context: The film traces the impact of the 1976 military coup and culminates with the Falklands War (1982). Verónico eventually joins the navy and is presumed killed when the cruiser ARA General Belgrano is sunk.
