This is a NGC certified ancient Roman coin minted under the reign of Antoninus Pius. The denomination of this coin is a AE24/As and it was minted between 138-161 AD during the Roman Imperial period at Emesa. The reverse depicts an inscription within a wreath.

Emesa (now known as Homs) is a city in western Syria that was once known for its temple of the Sun and the cult of its black stone. It was the capital of the Emesene Arabs, and was the birthplace of the philosopher Longinus and St. Romanos.

As well as piety, Antoninus is well known as a Roman emperor for his peaceful approach to imperial management. Whether or not it was a cause or a consequence of his decision never to leave Italy, the period of his reign – from AD 138 to 161 – was the most peaceful in all of Rome's imperial history.
