The front of the mediallion is inscribed, "Official California Medallion Proclaiming Liberty Throughout All The Land, 1973 American Revolution Bicentennial 1776-1976, with an eagle head symbol. The reverse is specific to California and shows the Historic Events of California, featuring raised relief of a minor, early explorer, a mission, and the Golden Gate Bridge. It was produced by the Lincoln Mint, Chicago, and of particular interest is a desciption of the 17 year old student who submitted the winning medallion design.
