Garmin Inreach Explorer+ is the mapping communicator that uses messaging satellites. I purchased this new and used for a couple years on hikes and bike rides. The maps are all included and free to update. unlike some Garmin models. it connects with Garmin software and you can upload to various websites like Strava for activity logging. always used with a screen protector, so it is in great condition. The body has minor almost imperceptible marks from normal use.

This can be used as a standalone GPS device, but really shines with the subscription options to be able to send and receive messages from anywhere in the world. I had great luck with the Inreach satellite system and messages always came through within a minute or two. Unlike the smaller models, you can type out a message from the device directly- or use a smartphone app to connect and type that way.

This device will be unlinked from my account and ready for a new one. Subscription plans start around $8 per month with options for more messaging or tracking on other plans. I only ever used the cheapest plan and it worked great.

Battery life is still many days with typical use, and there are options for extended use where it will check in with satellites less frequently. Charges with a USB micro port.
