Offered for you here is one of those characterful Bulova timepieces that carries with it a great sense of sophistication and enduring retro style.  Bulova has mastered the artful mix of design and performance with this classic timepiece.

DETAILS:

Case:            ‘President’ model. Sophisticated and highly noticeable with a distinctively ‘retro’ broad oval shaped bezel. Original and signed ‘BULOVA’ on the back. The all stainless steel case has been cleaned & lightly repolished and fitted with a new acrylic crystal. In general, the case looks great, with scratches/wear commensurate with age.

 

Crown:         The recessed crown is original, signed ‘Bulova’, showing some wear.

 

Dial:             Very eye-catching & immaculate. The brushed effect gold tone dial is in its original condition accentuating and complementing the case. The dial has a bold design. The hour positions are marked with raised gold tone batons with a central luminous stripe. These are linked with a bold slightly darker gold tone band enhancing the design of the minute chapter. The ‘Bulova’ name, ‘23’ Jewels and ‘automatic’ are in red. At the three o’clock position there is a day/date calendar window. The hour positions along with the hour & minute hands have not been relumed as they still glow well in the dark. The dial is showing age related wear, scuffs and patina. There is a small mark near to the twelve o’clock position please be sure you are happy with this.

 

Hands:         The hour, minute sweep second hands are original, gold tone with a luminous stripe.

 

Movement:  BULOVA Swiss automatic movement. This is a fine classic 11AOACB calibre with 23 jewels. The movement allows for both manual and self-winding. It is designed to prevent over-winding. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and at the time of listing is running well keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended.

 

Size:            Oval, measures approx. 38.16mm at the widest point (excluding the crown) X 33.26mm excluding the lugs. Approx. 40.68mm lug to lug.

 

Band:           A new 18mm black padded leather band with brushed steel buckle has been fitted complementing the watch perfectly.

 

Box:             This watch comes with its distinctive original hard case presentation box being remarkable to have survived the years together. The octagonal shaped box is made from a lightly textured white plastic. The lid has a cream coloured padded insert with a gilt edging. In the center is a metal foil emblem ‘Excellency Collection by Bulova’ with the letter ‘B’ taking center stage. The background is an iridescent orange whilst the lettering and border is in shiny gold tone.

 

The sprung lid opens as it should to reveal a classically retro interior which is themed with orange coloured silk. On the underside of the lid there is the Bulova name in bold white lettering. The watch is mounted on a sprung band, again covered in orange silk. Interestingly the Bulova name plate is still present. The lower tray can be lifted out.

General comments:

This ensemble was an estate acquisition and an outstanding example of a Bulova ‘President’ watch from the 1971 with its original presentation box. The automatic day/date watch has been restored to appeal once again. The repolished case with eye-catching dial make the watch highly attractive. A remarkable watch indeed which has a pleasing vintage retro look and feel that simply cannot be found in newer watches.

• This is a vintage manual & self-winding watch with a movement from 1971 and as such it will not have the accuracy of a contemporary quartz movement therefore perfect time accuracy cannot be expected. If you want a watch to simply put on and go – then perhaps this is not the best choice you could make – however, if you want a period timepiece that you can admire and enjoy on each occasion you wear it, then this is a great item.
