Presented here is a sophisticated ensemble of Bulova ‘Clipper’ watch with original clamshell presentation box meant for a discerning connoisseur of vintage timepieces keen on proudly standing apart from the rest. DETAILS:

Case:           ‘Clipper’ model. Sophisticated and very eye-catching. The super-thin bezel has an interesting yet subtle scalloped edge where it meets the crystal. Original and signed BULOVA on the back. The stainless steel bezel and case back have been cleaned & repolished and fitted with a new acrylic crystal. In general the case looks great with modest wear/scratches commensurate with the age of the watch. The case is NOT waterproof.

 

Crown:        Original, showing some wear.

 

Dial:            Immaculate, complementing the distinctiveness of the case the two-tone silver tone dial is in its original condition showing age related wear, scuffs and patina. The hour positions are marked with steel numeral batons. The ‘Bulova’ name, ‘selfwinding’ and minute chapter are in black. There is a calendar date window at the 3 o’clock position.

 

Hands:         Hour and minute hands are original, steel, ‘Dauphine’ style - they are showing a little tarnish. The hands have been relumed and now glow well in the dark. The sweep second hand is also original.

 

Movement:  BULOVA Swiss manual & self-winding movement. This is a fine classic 11ALACD calibre with 17 jewels marked ‘M7’ for 1967. It is designed to prevent over-winding. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and at the time of listing is running well keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended.

 

Size:            Round, measures approx. 33.36mm in diameter excluding the lugs and crown. Approx. 40.26mm lug to lug.

 

Band:           A new 18mm black leather band with silver tone buckle has been fitted complementing the timepiece perfectly.

 

Box:             This watch comes with its original hard case plastic clamshell presentation box which is in great condition for its years. The box has a dark navy-blue coloured lid with its easily recognisable globe decal in white & gold tone, bordered with two gold tone dolphins. The base is white incorporating a raised, bold, ‘Bulova’ name in gold tone on the opening lip to the box.

 

The clamshell lid opens as it should to reveal the sumptuous interior lined with plush navy-blue velvet matching the box lid. The underside of the lid is marked ‘Bulova’ in large gold tone letters, below this is the cream silk liner with ‘Clipper’ in navy blue emboldened text, along with ‘self-winding’, ‘shock- resistant’, ‘anti-magnetic’, ‘waterproof’. This is showing some age-related mottling.

General comments:

This ensemble was an estate acquisition and a remarkable find. The Bulova ‘Clipper’ watch comes with it’s original presentation box being so wonderful to have survived the years together.

The watch is a delightful example of a Bulova ‘Clipper’ automatic from 1967 which has been restored to appeal once again. The repolished case, with original eye-catching two-tone silver tone dial make the watch highly attractive and very noticeable indeed.
