Authentic Joseph Dixon Crucible Company Salesman’s Sample Book
This is a rare, original piece of American industrial history from the world-famous Joseph Dixon Crucible Company. Based in Jersey City, N.J., Dixon was a pioneer in graphite manufacturing and the creator of the iconic Ticonderoga pencil. These portfolio-style cases were carried by traveling sales representatives in the early 20th century (c. 1920s-1930s) to demonstrate the company’s extensive line of writing instruments to schools and businesses.

- Cleaning Note: This book was recently recovered from long-term storage. It has been carefully surface-cleaned and vacuumed to remove old storage debris. While it is now clean and safely stored, some permanent staining remains between the pencil slots.
- Exterior: The hardbound cloth cover shows staining and surface marks. There is a small tear to the cloth at the bottom of the front spine.
- Interior: The internal boards show age-toning and various stains consistent with an item of this era. The left loop of two pencil loops/holders are broken. All others are present and functional.
- Pencils: Pencils are in various states of use; some are full-length while others may be sharpened or show age-related wear to the wood and finish. One appears to be missing.
