DESCRIPTION

I have been given a lot of vintage tools and gadgets from a friend who helped clean out an estate. Aparantly the man was some kind of micro engineer. Researching as much as I can but with some items the info is limited.

The only information I could find of a box of crayons that looked exactly like this was a picture titled as National Camera Engraving Wax. I'm not sure if National Camera is the brand or if it's for cameras lol.

All info I could find is below. Apparently they are used by opticians.

USES

Holding and Blocking:

Lens wax helps to firmly hold the lens blank in place on a collet, collets are used to grip and hold optical lenses, mirrors, or other components with precision. They ensure proper alignment during polishing, grinding, or other manufacturing processes.

In assembly, collets hold components in place while they are bonded or otherwise attached.), allowing for precise shaping and processing on a lathe or other machinery.

Manufacturing:

It's a crucial part of the process for creating various types of lenses, including rigid contact lenses and intraocular lenses.

Optical Applications:

Beyond lens manufacturing, blocking wax can be used for thin film blocking, blanchard wheel work, and spot blocking, as well as for protecting surfaces during various processing steps.

Specific Types:

There are different types of lens wax, such as water-soluble and water-insoluble waxes, each suited for specific applications.

Examples:

Paraffin wax, Nerdwax, and specialized optical lens wax sticks are examples of different types of lens wax used in various contexts.

CONDITION

Crayons sticks are not dry or cracked. Box is damaged/discolored, see pics.
