An original 3x2" antique photo from pilot Sgt Alexander Wilson, 157th Aero Squadron, 1918. Served primarily out of Chatillon-sur-Seine, France. After the war he went on to the Second Corps School. These photos appear to have been taken by either him or others in his squadron and many are likely one of a kind. Professionally packaged in a rigid mailer for safe delivery.

Photo Overview

A woman is seated at a mechanical device, working on remaking mattresses. The device has gears and a large amount of wool or stuffing beside her. She is wearing a long dark dress and is positioned against a stone wall. The atmosphere suggests a task that’s both industrial and domestic, likely taking place in a utilitarian setting such as a factory or workshop.

During World War I, there was a significant need to recycle and repurpose materials, including textiles, for various uses. The image reflects how civilians or organizations were involved in efforts to support the war by reworking everyday items.
