Contains two CDs of material dated between 1914 and 1955. Most of this consists of roots-oriented songs from obscure artists, and the rest is a collection of anonymous undated field recordings and sound effects. The book largely consists of unidentified 'vernacular' photos (mostly portrait photographs) of people with their instruments. On the early pages is an essay-length piece by the author in which he explains his thoughts behind this project. Interspersed between the photos are a number of quotations.

In Good condition - front cover has minimal wear and a little very light discoloration, rear cover has minimal wear and a small amount of more noticeable discoloration, first CD has no markings on the playing surface, second second has some very small and very light markings on thew playing surface.
