This is a rare and deeply personal set of antique 1923 handmade Mother’s Day cards. Unlike mass-produced greetings, this collection features original hand-lettered poems and a hand-drawn illustration, providing a beautiful glimpse into American family life over a century ago.
The collection includes 7 cards:
  • Title Card: Labeled "Mother's Day 1923" in delicate cursive.
  • Portrait Card: Titled "To My Mother" with a charming hand-drawn profile of a woman.
  • Five (5) Poem Cards: Each numbered with Roman Numerals (I-V), featuring original rhyming verses about the comfort, love, and "quality" of a mother.
  • Signature Detail: The final card is signed "Your daughter, Bettie," followed by a humorous parenthetical note: "(I made this up my self!) Tommy)", suggesting a sweet collaboration between siblings.
Historical Significance:
This set is a prime example of American Folk Art ephemera. In the early 20th century, before the full commercialization of Mother's Day (which was only made an official U.S. holiday in 1914), handmade tributes like these were the standard. The use of blue-toned cardstock and the careful penmanship make this a museum-quality piece for collectors of women's history1920s Americana, or vintage childhood memorabilia.
