Offered for sale are two original illuminated Qur’an manuscript pages mounted as facing pages, written in Arabic Naskh script with floral decorated margins. The text has been identified as passages from Surah Al-Baqarah, the second chapter of the Qur’an.


The pages are executed in black ink with ruled borders and surrounded by repeating floral stencil decoration typical of North Indian Islamic manuscript production from the late Mughal / early post-Mughal period. The paper, pigments, and calligraphy style are consistent with manuscripts produced in the Awadh region, likely Lucknow, circa 1780–1830.


Condition:

Antique manuscript folio in good condition for its age. Age toning, foxing, and general wear consistent with age. Minor edge wear and small losses to margins. Some rubbing to illumination and gold. Creasing and light waviness to paper. The folio appears to have been removed from a bound manuscript. Overall displays well and the calligraphy and decoration remain clear and attractive.
