9 by 5 3/4 inches. xxiv, 354pp and 60 figures. Hardback bound in the publishers original green cloth boards and gilt lettering to the spine. The cloth is soiled, marked, and worn, with the edges of the spine and the corners of the boards showing some wear and bumping. An old ink stamp of "Glasgow University Medico-Chirurgical Society" appears on both the front free endpaper and the rear pastedown endpaper. There is an advertisement for Macewen's Atlas tipped in to the front free endpaper. On the rear pastedown endpaper, there is also a pencilled inscription that reads "donated by Dr. George L. Montgomery, 12 March '98," along with an old price of £3/3/-.
The front and rear free endpapers show browning and spotting. The advertisement for the atlas on the front free endpaper has left a lighter, rectangular area underneath. The edges of the textblock are dusty, with toning along the paper edges, a few occasional page edge nicks, and some minor chipping at the top of the guttering (see page 51). Despite these imperfections, the paper remains supple, with some scatterd dustiness on the contents and the occasional spot.
