Nice Eagle-R Regiment of Mounted Rifles button, standard large coat size, Scovills & Co. Waterbury RMDC backmark. The eagle design is the late 1840s type.  Button is mosty flattend on the front but the loop is standing on the back side. This came from the collection of an elderly man (now deceased) who owned property adjacent to Fort Inge and metal detected there for many years.  Fort Inge is near Uvalde and was in use from 1849 to 1865 and was garrisoned by dragoons, riflemen, artillery, and infantry.  It was also occupied by Texas Confederates during the Civil War and the Texas Rangers periodically used the post in the 1860s as well.
