We’re selling Stella, our much-loved 1977 VW camper (late bay). She’s been the centre of countless family trips since we bought her in 2013, including holidays with our three children and two large dogs — but with school/weekend commitments we’re simply not using her as she deserves. We’d love her to go to a new enthusiast home.
Professionally built, one-off interior
Shortly after buying Stella, we commissioned a full bespoke interior built by Jo & Adrian at All Things Timber (Yorkshire). The result is a stunning handmade solid oak interior that’s both practical and genuinely special.
Key features:
Full-width bed (not a 3/4) – a genuinely comfortable bed that folds into a forward-facing bench seat with 3 seatbelts
Rear-facing bench behind the driver that converts into a cot if needed – a unique and brilliant touch for young families
High-quality bespoke-built cabinetry and finish throughout (oak complements the van beautifully)
Bespoke trim to match
The upholstery and roof lining were completed by Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers (now Bromsgrove Trim Shop) in a distinctive chestnut & orange scheme that works perfectly with the bright orange exterior and oak interior.
Exterior and pop-top upgrades
2016: Near full respray by Bromsgrove Body Repair (after a superficial scrape while on holiday, and the paintwork was due anyway)
2019: Roof professionally converted with a Westfalia-style pop top fitted by Space Roofs (Devon) — the kids absolutely love sleeping up there
Mechanical
Stella runs a 2.0 litre twin carb engine. Since we’ve owned her we’ve lived by “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” — she’s been regularly serviced and MOT’d, and has been consistently reliable for us. The only breakdown we’ve ever had was a split clutch cable in Ireland; otherwise she’s been excellent.
She’s also regularly complimented for how good she looks underneath. We’ve had the underside waxed, and she’s been stored in our garage when not in use, which has clearly helped.
I think she has a small problem with the stereo, as it does intermittently stop working - I am sure it is just a loose connection somewhere, as when it does work, it sounds great!
History & documentation
Stella comes with her own “Stella Bible” documenting owners, projects and travels since her arrival in the UK in 2006. Before the UK, she reportedly served as a fire engine at a Swedish airport — a great bit of character and conversation.
Extras / camping kit
We also have various accessories which can be included, such as:
240V hookup cable
Petrol stove
Drive-away awning
Viewings welcome and happy to provide more photos/videos for serious buyers.
