Early 20th century Amati model violin, likely a German trade instrument from the 1910s. The violin is set up, repaired, and ready to play.
It has a remarkably pleasing tone with good depth and focus and is enjoyable to play. This instrument could work well as a spare violin for a serious player or student, an affordable entry point for someone exploring violin, et cetera. I really like it, and find myself choosing to play it often, which is a nice surprise, considering the history!
The violin has had a number of past repairs, including several crack repairs and repairs in the pegbox area. Based on the style of the work, I believe these were done earlier in the instrument’s life (I bought it from a shop who used it as a higher-end rental/loaner instrument). The repairs are cosmetically rough but appear very solid and stable, typical of durable “rental style” workshop repairs meant to hold up to regular use. Bit of a shame, as an instrument like this could sell in the 2-3k range without all the damage, but a great deal for the buyer!
One pegbox bushing was replaced during my ownership; the rest of the repair work predates me.
Despite its history, the violin plays well and retains a satisfying, mature sound typical of older instruments.
The violin is being sold as is. Please review the photos carefully for details of condition and past repairs.
I am open to offers. For higher offers, I can consider additional upgrades such as different strings, geared pegs, or other setup adjustments by request.
