๐ฏ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐,
Here we have a modern leather rebind of the 1859 edition of THE WAR IN ITALY by Carlo Bossoli with 40 lithographs of drawings by the author and published by Day and Son, lithographers to the Queen, London. This beautiful rebind features a red leather with gilt decorations and titles, gilt page edges, a silk ribbon bookmark, and glorious red marbled endpapers.
This particular copy bears the bookplate of James Stanley Little and a few other names written in the front of the book. I was able to make out the name of Luigi Lablache, a notable italian opera singer, although his death in Naples in 1858 indicates he was never an owner of this book. His exact connection to this book is unknown although it was recovered from an estate sale with an extensive collection of Opera literature of which many titles were related to Lablache. Can you make out the other names?
The rebind itself is in excellent NEAR FINE condition while the interior of the book is in VERY GOOD condition. The interior contains foxing and a few spots that have been repaired (for example see the bottom right corner of the title page).
PLEASE refer to pictures for more detailed information on condition.
Thank you for considering this book, and as always,
Godspeed,
โญ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐โ๐๐๐๐๐โค

P.S. - ๐ณ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ long winded COPY AND PASTE explanation about boring, logistical stuff written in MID JULY of the year of our Lord, 2025.
The ILLUMINATED LIBRARYโข is a one man operation out of a small 2-bedroom monastery in search of cool books and other interesting paper goods. I, ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐โ๐๐๐๐๐, am in charge of all the exciting stuff like acquisition and reading but also all the less exciting stuff like listing and packing.
As you may have noticed I make listing more interesting by inserting jokes in the descriptions and generally pretending to be a medieval monk. I make shipping more interesting by wrapping your book in fancy black paper (or whatever other cool paper Iโve got) and writing your name on the WRAPPING PAPER (never the book) in ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐. Sometimes I even doodle a weird little guy on it. Just like medieval monks used to do.
Anyways, If you want me to write a DIFFERENT NAME than the one on your shipping address please let me know ASAP so I can do that for you. Might make a fun gift ๐ for a friend who likes books. Even if that friend is yourself.
My goal is next day (or even same day shipping) but dear reader I have a confession to make. I have three small children and a day job. This doesnโt make me special but sometimes it turns out to be a difficult 2-3 days
Are you still reading? Oh good! Let me tell you about my packing strategy.
I place your book into a nucleus of soft cushy protection using successive layers of wrapping paper, bubble wrap, kraft paper and sometimes even pool noodles. The nucleus is then enclosed in a tough cell wall of a corrugated cardboard box. God bless โem but I know post office employees are chucking boxes around in the back room. ( Not at the local office where I drop them off. Those are all lovely people).
I primarily use recycled boxes and paper as a small contribution towards saving the Earth. If your book arrives in a box from amazon or a diaper box please understand that you are helping me save the earth.
The ILLUMINATED LIBRARYโข started acquiring books a little over one year ago so I am not an expert yet. I try my best to describe everything as accurately as possible but continue to make mistakes. PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF I MAKE A MISTAKE. You wouldnโt let a brother look like a fool would you?
Pricing may be aspirational because these books look โจSUPER AWESOMEโจ on the shelves of the monastery. I think they would look โจSUPER AWESOMEโจ on your shelf too.
Even if itโs not in a monastery. ๐
P.P.S - if youโve read this far then maybe you are crazy enough to check out the other books Iโve got in the Library.
