- This antique German MERSON ¾ size violin measures 22” tip to tip. We know little about violins so please look at the pictures carefully. Before I go on, let me clear up something about the pictures. The first few show a wooden coffin case in solid condition with good closures. The pictures originally were taken in a different and poor condition case. I acquired the nice coffin case subsequently in a different transaction and switched the violin to the much nicer coffin case. - As to the violin, there are no chips or cracks – aside from a few light but noticeable scratches on the lower right front, the old finish with a warm patina is lovely. The tuning knobs and other parts look OK – the inside label, which I was not able to photograph properly, is complete. It reads “MERSON VIOLIN SYMPHONY MODEL SERIAL No 1764 MERSON MUSICAL PRODUCTS CORP New York 11, N.Y ADJUSTED TO MENC SPECIFICATIONS FOR PERFECT PERFORMANCE” also “COPY OF ANTONIUS STRADIVARIUS FACIEBAD ANNO 1716 MADE IN GERMANY” Finally the bow is included BUT the horsehair has gone missing in the transport somehow. Acquired from a local Pennsylvania estate – in the somewhat imperfect but usable original hard case and with a bow, no idea the actual condition of the bow.
