These coasters are from the Hakone workshop "Ruchie" by marquetry craftsman Shimizu Yuta.

The checkered pattern, which makes use of the wood's color and grain, unique to Hakone marquetry, and the natural texture make them suitable not only as coasters, but also as plates for Japanese sweets and tea, or as stands for accessories and flower vases.
