DETAILS:

Case:            ‘Vassar’ model. Distinctive and with superbly elegant style. The six-sided hexagon shaped case is distinctive & highly noticeable and has intricate engraving to the sides of the crystal. Original & signed ‘Bulova’ on the case back. The 10kt gold plated bezel and case back have been cleaned & repolished and fitted with a new acrylic crystal. In general the case looks great with modest wear/scratches commensurate with the age of the watch.

Crown:         Original, showing some wear.

 

Dial:             Immaculate and highly noticeable complementing the distinctiveness of the case, the dial has been professionally refinished in a charcoal colour. The hour positions are marked with numerals and these along with the ‘Bulova’ name are gilt and slightly raised on the dial to great effect. The minute chapter is in gold tone.

 

Hands:         Hour and minute hands are all original, gilt, ‘Index’ style.

 

Movement:  BULOVA high quality Swiss manual wind movement. This is a fine classic 6AZ calibre with 17 jewels marked with an arrow symbol for 1937. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and is running well, keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended.

 

Size:            Hexagonal shaped, measures approx. 19.01mm lug to lug X 16.66mm excluding the crown.

 

Band:           A new ‘Finesse’ black cord band with 12kt gold plated clasps has been fitted complementing the timepiece perfectly. The length is 148mm including the watch.

 

Box:             This watch comes with its original Bulova presentation box which is in superb condition for its years. The top is covered with the Bulova signature luxuriously sumptuous deep maroon velvet, whilst the base is metal painted a matching deep maroon colour. The corners have an ‘Art Deco’ stepped design.

The sprung hinged lid opens as it should and lifts to reveal a deep maroon silk lining with the ‘Bulova’ name elongated in gold tone lettering, with ‘Fifth Avenue’, New York’ beneath. The watch is mounted on a removable maroon velvet pad which nestles in a shallow recess with velvet sides and cream coloured silk border.

In general the presentation box is in remarkably good condition and has obviously been well cared for.

This is an outstanding example of a lady’s Bulova ‘Vassar’ manual wind watch with original presentation box from 1937. The watch has been restored to appeal once again. The design of the case and eye-catching refinished dial make the watch highly attractive and very noticeable indeed. The watch has a delightful classic look and feel that simply cannot be found in newer watches.

• This is a vintage manual wind watch with a movement from 1937 and as such it will not have the accuracy of a contemporary quartz movement therefore perfect time accuracy cannot be expected. If you want a watch to simply put on and go – then perhaps this is not the best choice you could make – however, if you want a period timepiece that you can admire and enjoy on each occasion you wear it, then this is a great item.
