Era & Origin: Authentic Interwar Period (c. 1918–1930s) piece hailing from the First Republic of Czechoslovakia. Stamped "CECH SLOV" on the clasp link, a desirable mark confirming its origin in the historic Turnov region, the epicenter of world-class garnet artistry.
Materials & Construction:
Gemstones: Features genuine Bohemian Pyrope garnets with the traditional "Rose Cut" (flat bottom, faceted dome). These stones display the signature deep "pigeon blood" red hue that glows with fiery intensity under direct light.
Metalwork: Expertly set in Tombac (a durable, copper-rich brass alloy), historically used for garnet jewelry to enhance the warmth of the stones. The metal retains traces of its original gold wash (gilt), showing a rich, unpolished antique patina.
Design:
A sophisticated festoon/lavaliere silhouette featuring intricate floral rosette stations connected by starburst links. The design culminates in three articulated drops that provide graceful movement. The prong settings are tight and precise, showcasing the "invisible metal" look characteristic of high-quality Bohemian work.
Specifications:
Weight: 19.42 grams
Length: Approximately 17 inches (sits high on the collarbone as a choker/collar length).
Clasp: Original box-tab insert clasp.
Condition:
Presented in very good antique condition. All garnet stones appear present and original with no obvious replacements. The metal shows age-appropriate darkening (patina) which verifies its age; it has not been over-cleaned. Note: As is common with pieces of this era, the secondary safety mechanism (safety chain or figure-8 latch) is absent; however, the main box clasp snaps shut securely.
