This listing is for the two original hand colored etchings by Marcel Julian Baron that you see in the photos. I purchased them at an estate sale in Oregon where I was not told their history. I do not know when they were made. I am guessing that they are from the early -part of the 20th century.
They are signed “Baron” in pencil in the lower right hand corners of each etching.
According to Perplexity AI: Marcel Julien Baron (1872–1956) was a French artist known for his work in etching and aquatint, particularly during the early to mid-20th century. His artistic style often captured urban scenes, reflecting the life and atmosphere of Paris.
Some research tells me that one is The Basilica of Sacre Coeur while the other is of the interior of the St. Chapelle le Reliquaire. Both are in Paris, France.
Each frame measures close to 10 ¼ by 13 inches and weighs close to 1 pound 6.4 ounces. Both of the images measure close to 6 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches The etchings are behind glass. They are not titled but I believe that they are scenes in Paris, France. The nature of the paper backing on the frames tells me that they were probably framed around the time that the prints were made.
The condition is much like you see it in the photos. I have not examined the etchings out of their frames so in that respect they are being sold “as is”. From what I can see, the etchings are in excellent condition with no damage. It looks like there might be a light grayish haze on the inside of the glass in the dark area at the top of the interior view. It might be from the paint oxidizing through the years. The frames show some slight signs of use in the form of a tiny amount of paint loss. They might benefit from a cleaning. The paper backing on the frames is a little damaged and discolored. Otherwise, these etchings are fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition.
I guarantee these etchings to be as described and represented by the photos. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. I allow three business days for shipping, but I usually ship the same or next day if possible. Please note that the lighting in my photos is uneven, and there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors; different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs "approximately" or “close to” because no measurements are exact, and some things are difficult to measure.
I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied. I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation. I sometimes purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often, but not always, ship the same or next day. Often, I have a box custom made for items that I do not have a used box for which might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually made from biodegradable materials.
