🌿 Description:
A rare and highly evocative two-piece women’s ensemble dating to the late 1920s–early 1930s, by Lavalette Ltd of Westcliff-on-Sea. This striking set comprises a long-sleeved drop-waist dress with soft pleating and a coordinating open-front over-jacket, both in a muted dusty blue tone typical of the interwar period.

The dress features a gathered neckline with original tie detail, long slim sleeves and a gently flared hem created through panel construction, producing the elegant vertical line associated with late 1920s fashion. The accompanying jacket is cut straight and loose, intended to be worn open as a complete ensemble rather than as a modern cardigan.

Both pieces are made from an early man-made fibre, likely rayon or artificial silk, giving the fabric a distinctive dry, slightly stiff hand-feel with fluid drape when worn. This is a fragile historic textile and very different from modern knits or jersey fabrics.

A beautiful and scarce example of genuine interwar women’s clothing, best suited to collectors, costume archives, display, or careful occasional wear.
