Founded in 1886 in the Swiss Jura region, the Mathey-Tissot watch company began by producing repeater watches that chimed the hours and half-hours. The company soon expanded into chronographs (stopwatches), which quickly became a success thanks to their ingenuity and precision, winning numerous awards throughout Europe. In the 1950s and 1960s, at the request of the French Ministry of Defense, Mathey-Tissot was one of the first suppliers of the Type XX flyback chronograph to the French military. Since the 1960s, Mathey-Tissot has earned a global reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality movements, supplying movements to prestigious brands such as Zenith, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Girard-Perregaux, Breguet, and Ulysse Nardin.
