Description
Gibson L-30 Used Acoustic Guitar
The Gibson L-30 has arrived! The L-30 is a vintage archtop acoustic guitar with a small body, produced only for a limited time between 1935 and 1943. While it was sold as a budget model at the time, it is now prized for its distinctive bluesy, mellow sound.
Small Body Size: At approximately 14 3/4 inches wide, it's smaller than the larger archtops of the era (typically 16 inches or larger). This size contributes to its comfortable grip and unique acoustic characteristics.
Characteristic Neck: The neck is crafted from mahogany and features a thick V-shape characteristic of Gibsons from this era. Some players have described this neck as extremely comfortable and easy to play.
Sound: Reviews note that the guitar's distinctive features include a "buzzing" sound that breaks depending on the amount of pressure applied, as well as a soft, mellow tone when played softly. This guitar is well-suited for blues, ragtime, and jazz comping, and is known for its appealing midrange resonance even in modern drop tunings.
Exterior: The single-ply body binding and silkscreen-printed headstock logo (due to its low-cost design) are key elements of the cost-saving design. Models are available in black and sunburst finishes.
The guitar shows signs of age and aging (minor, small, and noticeable scratches, dents, weather-checking, etc.). It appears to have been over-lacquered throughout (it is unclear when this was done).
There are cracks repaired on both sides of the back of the guitar, repaired with patches applied from the back.
The nut has been replaced.
The tuning machines appear to have also been replaced.
